Last Wed, Hap vomitted all his dinner as soon as he finished eating. Later on in the night, I fed him once more as he gave me that hungry look. He vomitted EVERYTHING from his 2nd dinner as well. His vomitting continued through out the entire Wednesday night / Thursday morning.
In the morning, I saw that he had gone to the newspaper as he has had diarrhea. This is most unusual of Hap as he would hold as long as he can until he is taken out for his early morning walk.
As his vomitting / diarrhea continued on Thurs, I decided to take him to a newly opened vet/hospital. He has his X rays taken as I was concerned that it could have been caused by a bone that he had on Wed night. The very young inexperienced vets couldnt find anything lodged in his system and he was sent home with an anti vomit syrup. He could not retain anything he ate or drank, including the anti vomit syrup.
Eventually he refused food / water and looked extremely miserable.
I decided the best thing to do was to have him on a drip as he had not eaten/drank water for 2 days. My sister M, checked him into the hospital on Fri morning. The vets were told that he is to be given only an anti vomit jab / half day drip as they werent able to find the cause of his continuous vomitting/diarrhea.
When I checked on him later on at the hospital, I asked that he be taken out from the 'cage' as I will keep him company during the drip. I was attended to by another young doctor who was on duty that day. I didnt like the attitude of this doctor, so full of herself and when I questioned her if an anti vomit jab had been administered onto Hap, she said that in addition to that anti vomit jab, she also gave him an anti-bio jab. Upon hearing this I gave her an earful and told her point blank she HAD NO RIGHT to give him any other jabs without mine / or my sis consent or knowledge! I couldnt help but mouthed at her, whatever went thro my head. She tried to get out of her mistake by trying to explain herself and seeing that I couldnt be appeased, quickly offered to let Hap have a private room to continue with his drip with me inside the room.
On Sat, I decided to get a 2nd opinion from another vet. I had collected his feces, urine and vomit to get all of these tested. When the 2nd vet said that he had bilirubin in his urine, he suggested a blood test to check his liver. Results showed nothing is wrong with his liver and kidneys.
I had with me the x-rays taken by the 1st vet and when the 2nd vet went thro the x-rays, he said that Hap's stomach lining seems to be thick, an indication of swelling of his stomach lining.
2nd vet suggested Hap be retained overnight on a 24 hour medicated drip which I agreed.
I do not think that Hap liked the place where he was placed on a 24 hr drip. I had specifically informed the vet that Hap doesnt like air-con / he will shiver when he holds his pee for too long. I asked that he be taken out occasionally for his pee.
Much to my dismay, the female attending vet on Sun was similar to the one I had encountered at the 1st hospital. When Hap was brought out to me on Sun, he was shivering real bad. I said I wanted to take Hap out for a pee, she 'threatened' in not so many words that if anything happened to Hap, he will have to stay on another 24 hours.
I was damn PISSED off and told her I know my dog better than she does when she told me Hap was only shivering from fear! I TOOK HIM OUT FOR A PEE and he pee-ed quite alot.
I am totally disillusioned by these type of vets who DONT take care of their patients needs! They think they are the ones who decide whats good for the patients, totally disregarding what the owners want for their pets, thinking that the owners/their pets are at their mercy! Who would know their pets better? Vets or owners?
To them, its the financial benefit they get out from their patients!
This is another animal clinic that I have struck OFF from my list, now that Hap is out from there!
*Hap didnt shiver in the 1st clinic, just that the vets were too young and inexperienced and Hap was their 'experiment".
*2nd clinic had older more experienced vets but they impose their own STRONG belief systems onto others! Even tho they are the treating vets, the ultimate decision of whats best for the pet/s lies with the owner. The pet is after all the owners not the vet's!
